Outstanding Portuguese Performance in TripAdvisor Travelers Choice Awards 2013

Portuguese tourism facilities and resorts performed outstandingly in the Trip Advisor Travelers Choice Awards for 2013. Millions of international travelers voted for their favorite hotels and tourism spots across the globe. A Portuguese hotel in Madeira, a luxury resort in Cascais and three beaches in Algarve and Cascais have made it to TripAdvisor’s list of top 25 Travelers Choice Awards.
Onuria Marinha Edition Hotel and Thalasso Resort made it to the travel website’s most prestigious list – its ranking of the best 25 hotels across the globe. The top two positions were awarded to Four Seasons Resort in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and the Cape Grace hotel in Cape Town, South Africa.
The achievement is spectacular because Onuria Marinha Edition Hotel managed to achieve the ranking within just one year of operation. “Our five-star venue was beaten only by the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, Hawaii, and South Africa’s Cape Grace, Cape Town Central, South Africa… making Onyria Marinha Edition Hotel & Thalasso Europe’s number 1,” an official statement issued by the hotel’s manager read.
Another Portuguese entry received a major distinction from the TripAdvisor website visitors. The Cliff Bay Hotel in Porto Bay, Funchal ranked among the top 25 hotels in the world for romantic experiences. The TripAdvisor visitors gave it the 17th position.
As already mentioned, three Portuguese beaches were recognized for their exceptional appearance and tourism services. The highest ranking Portuguese beach in the TripAdvisor distinction list is Albufeira’s Praia da Falésia. The Algarve region beach ranked 18th in the list. Praia da Falésia was praised for the white sand, clean water and the beautiful background comprised of red cliffs. Additionally, tourists said that the beach was spacious enough to guarantee a pleasant experience.
Cascais beach in Lisbon is the next Portuguese beach to make it among the best 25 in the world. It is ranked in 21st position and according to TripAdvisor members, visitors will be most satisfied if they pay a visit between the months of May to October.
Another Algarve beach is ranked in the top 25. Appearing at the 22nd position is the Ponta de Piedade beach in Algarve region, again. The clear waters and the unusual rock formations in the background have made this beach so popular among the TripAdvisor audience.
TripAdvisor Travelers Choice Awards 2013 saw intense competition. More than 6000 hotels in 82 countries across the globe competed to be recognized as the best by the TripAdvisor loyal members. This is the 11th consecutive year in which the popular website holds the voting to determine the best hotels and vacation spots in the world.

In terms of bargain hotels across the world, SeaCoast Inn in Massachusetts is the winner. The hosts provided tourists with everything that they needed for a pleasant stay ranging from maps to wonderful conversations, one TripAdvisor member wrote. Aparthotel City 5 in Prague and Jade Hotel in Vietnam’s Hue rank second and third, respectively.
TripAdvisor ranks the best travel destinations, as well. According to the website’s members, London was the best tourism destination in the world. In 2012, the city won the hearts of visitors because of the Olympic Games and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. A huge parade marked the special occasion.
New York City is the runner up. TripAdvisor members were charmed by the exploration opportunities and the specific charm of each New York street and district. The other travel destinations included in the top five list for 2012 are Italy’s Rome, Paris and San Francisco in California.
