The commission that put together the Portuguese steps of the America's Cup World Series, which came to an end on 14 August, has started discussions to welcome the famous sailing event once again in 2012 or 2013, per a spokesperson.

Patrick Monteiro de Barros, the President of the organisation's commission, stated that it was an honour to be the first organisation to host the new layout of the America Cup. He states that his organisation will begin discussions about hosting the race during 2012 or 2013. This was stated at an August 14th press conference.

The first step of the new layout of the America's Cup ended with the Emirates Team New Zealand winning, with a win over second place Artemis Racing and third place Spithill.

Dean Barker, the skipper for New Zealand's winning Emirates Team, made the statement that James Spithill might have been the favourite, but his team was able to make a change and he is happy with the outcome. He says that his team is sailing on to Plymouth, where the second part of the race will continue.

John Bertrand, the Australian sailor who managed to break the United State's one hundred and thirty two year winning streak in 1983, was also available.

By creating the America's Cup World Series, the America's Cup has a new format. The competition, which is considered to be the oldest sailing race in the world, now has 8 stages. Cascais was the host of the first one.
