A small village that lies under the parish of Lagos, Odiaxere is easy to drive straight through without stopping to explore what this typically Portuguese village has to offer. Once off the main thoroughfare you will realise Odiaxere has a lot more going for it than meets the eye. A busy village, that is packed full of Portuguese charm and set in a wonderful countryside location.
Here you can find plenty of good bars, cafes and restaurants with dishes being more traditional than the neighbouring touristy areas. A hearty "prato do dia" (dish of the day) can cost as little as €6 including wine. With restaurants serving up fresh fish that is delivered on a daily basis along with other local produce the quality of food is usually excellent.
The area is also known for its fresh fruit and vegetables and hosts a daily market selling fresh fish and locally grown produce.
Located a short drive away is the 5th largest dam in the Algarve, 41 meters deep with three islands inside the lake. A fantastically beautiful area for walking, picnicking and to cool off on those hot summer days.
