Lisbon Airport is a hive of activity every day, but there is a buzz of excitement at the moment, due to the new one stop passport shop. This is the first of its kind in Europe, and will allow people to order and pick up their passports, visas and documents directly from the airport. This crucial step is thought to be a way to make travelling easier.

One of the largest complaints that travelers have expressed is that attempting to apply for and collecting a passport can be time consuming and complicated. Unfortunately, there is a process that must be adhered to, ensuring that every passport which is issued falls into the right hands. However, there are now fantastic passport agents who make the process easier and quicker than ever before.

Until 2011 you could only apply for your passport through the district government offices which are typically located in the capital. However, as times have changed smaller passport offices opened, enabling you to apply in smaller registry offices. Therefore, this latest move is just a step in the right direction to make things easier.

According to the official statement that the SEF released for the new one stop passport office in Lisbon airport, this scheme is pioneering and an excellent opportunity. Both permanent and temporary passports will be available over the counter. This will ensure that more travelers can move freely, and without delay.

The agents will ensure that all the correct documents are processed, and that every piece of paperwork is completed correctly. The idea of processing passports at other locations has been discussed before, but authorities were concerned about security. However, the new system ensures that every passport is issued in the same manner as the main passport office.

The one stop shop is in a prime location at Lisbon airport, and it is hoped that further airports will embrace the idea, and open their own one stop passport shops. As the shop has the full support of the authorities and government, the minister of home affairs Miguel Macedo is inaugurating the opening.

This event is hoped to mark the first stages of a successful idea, and ensures that everyone will know about the new passport shop. As more people experience and enjoy the simplicity that the one stop shop brings to the country, hopefully more airports will join the scheme.
