The Lisbon metro extension will soon be fully operational and will include a station at the Lisbon airport. The investment has been in the region of 5 million euros and will provide invaluable links with the city centre reducing traffic congestion and making airport travel more convenient for both local residents and tourists. A further investment of 15 million by the hotel chain Melia will mean a brand new 'airport' hotel will be available to passengers and this hotel will include 13 floors, 170 rooms, bar, restaurant, inside and outside pool together with a health centre and spa.
Whilst long term the country still has plans to build a new airport the existing airport will not be neglected and this investment shows the continued faith in the increasing number of passengers heading to Portugal.
