Cascais Run Planned For This Month

Registration is open to athletes interested in competing in the 2012 Cascais 20km or 5km run scheduled for 19 February. This increasingly popular event, organized by the Town Hall of Cascais and the Municipal Centre for Sport and Culture, is open to federated and non-federated runners and attracted well over 1,000 participants last year. 1,600 runners participated in the 20 km run in 2011, with over 1,400 completing the race.
Last year’s winners of the 20 km run were Helder Ornelas of the Conforlimpa Sports and Recreation Group, clocking in at 1 hour, 2 minutes and 13 seconds; and Lucilia Soares of Sport Lisboa e Benfica at 1 hour, 23 minutes and 13 seconds. The 5 km run, a non-competitive event, attracted a larger number of runners, with 987 completing the course.
Interested athletes may register online at www.xistarca.pt. The cost of registration is €9 for the 20 km run and €7.70 for the 5 km run.
