According to the Post Office Travel Money Family Holiday Report 2026, produced in partnership with TUI, the Algarve offers the best overall value for money among 22 of Europe's leading beach destinations. A basket of everyday holiday purchases costs an average of just £139.65 (around €163), making it the most affordable destination for families once they arrive.
For anyone considering purchasing a holiday home or rental investment, the report highlights one of the Algarve's greatest strengths: visitors enjoy an exceptional lifestyle without high day-to-day living costs. That affordability helps attract millions of tourists each year, supporting strong demand for holiday accommodation and making the region an appealing choice for buy-to-let investors.
The Algarve returned to the top of the rankings after placing third last year, overtaking Sunny Beach in Bulgaria and Lanzarote as prices rose in many competing destinations.
Researchers praised the Algarve for combining excellent value with beautiful beaches, family-friendly attractions and outstanding facilities.
