Portugal tops the ranking of the 10 best tourism destinations in the world, according to the information presented by Globe Spots international travel website.

People interested in great sightseeing and a classical trip should definitely visit Portugal, according to Globe Spots. It was named the best country to visit in 2013 because of its medieval appearance, historic landmarks and classic European charm.

Globe Spots presents its ranking for the fifth consecutive year. The report includes three types of tourism landmarks: classic travel opportunities, adventurous places and great tourism destinations for the people that are willing to travel anywhere.

“Portugal oozes 'old European charm'. Medieval towns and historical quarters are full of squares, churches and monasteries,” the Globe Spots presentation of Portugal begins. The availability of cultural landmarks, the charming little cafés and the high quality restaurants are all responsible for the country’s exceptional ranking.

Other top tourism spots to visit in 2013 include Panama, Mozambique, Armenia, Cuba, Ukraine, Canada, Malawi and Rwanda.

Mozambique is the runner up, ranking just after Portugal and being labeled as a great destination for those willing to travel anywhere just for the adrenaline rush. The country offers a great alternative to the traditional safaris organized for tourists in the neighboring countries.

Kyrgyzstan takes the third place. The country increased its appeal by adopting a visa-free regime with 44 Western countries. This national decision increased accessibility, giving Kyrgyzstan top placement among the Central Asian travel destinations. Tourists will be most impressed by the semi-nomadic culture and the excellent tourism infrastructure of the country.

Panama is the fourth best tourism destination and it is classified as a wonderful place for adventure travel.

The beautiful islands, clean beaches and amazingly green rainforests turn Panama into one of the most spectacular places to visit in 2013.

The top five is completed through the presence of Armenia. According to Globe Spot, Armenia remains a little known tourism destination despite the fact that it has well-developed tourism infrastructure. Armenia is known for its numerous churches and monasteries but Globe Spot suggests in-depth exploration of the breathtaking scenery.

Globe Spot creates its list of most intriguing tourism attractions on an annual basis. Every year, the website presents some of the most intriguing places to visit, using the same criteria. The number one destination is different each year. For 2012, the website recommended Georgia as the best travel country in the world. The previous editions of the report gave the number one spot to Vanuatu, Colombia and Laos, respectively.

This is yet another recognition that Portugal’s tourism opportunities receive in 2012. Earlier this year, the country received several of the important World Travel Award (WTA) distinctions. Portugal was named Europe’s best golf destination and The Algarve region became Europe’s leading beach destination.

After winning several of the regional categories for Europe, Portugal is to participate in the WTA grand finale that is scheduled to take place on December 12th, 2012 in India.
