The Location
Just a five minute walk takes you into the town’s central streets with shops supermarkets bars and restaurants. Castro Verde is located within the center of the lower Alentejo region and hosts festivals and markets throughout the year. One hour from the west or south coast forty minutes from the Algarve. One hour from Faro airport and one and half hours from Lisbon airport.

Castro Verde
The town has a health center with accident and emergency, plus a 24hr pharmacy. A large open air market is held on the 1st Wednesday of every month. The town has boutiques hardware and household shops. There is a post office several banks with cash points children’s play park public library night club public swimming pools and tennis courts along with a spa offering various therapies and treatments. The town has a coach station several petrol stations a cinema-theatre several churches a cultural center tourist office and a museum. With all these amenities Castro Verde still maintains all the Portuguese culture architecture and traditions of a beautiful historical town.
Agriculture, tin and copper mining have been the mainstay of this region. The plains became a vast area for grain production and cattle-sheep grazing. Mining dates back hundreds of years with an abundant source of minerals including gold, silver, lead and iron. The richness and abundance of these combined ‘base economies’ grew to such an extent that Castro Verde became a regional center of commerce and thus a crossroad of cultures within the Mediterranean area.

Attractions
There are several excellent vineyards within a 20 minute drive. Hertitage sites like Evora and historical towns such a Mertola Marvao and Serpa are all within easy reach by car. With stunning landscape and nature there are many outdoor pursuits and a very popular area for birdwatching artists and photographers.

East • 60 minutes east is the beautiful Spanish border
South • 40 minutes south lies the popular Algarve Region
West • 40 minutes west lies the unspoilt Atlantic coast line
