In the heart of Funchal, the future rises from legacy.
Built around 1929, the old Companhia Insular de Moinhos Mill (aka “Insular'') sits in what is now the heart of present-day Funchal, Madeira. From the start, the building’s iconic chimney stood out as a beacon for the rest of the city.
Bringing an iconic space into the 21st century
While much of the original structure is gone, the towering chimney was maintained during the renovation, preserving this beloved local icon while creating a fresh, modern and spacious aesthetic; bringing the building’s architecture into the future. Inspired by industrial architecture combined with a mix of natural textures, Insular boasts 47 light-filled double lofts with high ceilings flooding the apartments with natural light, elegance, comfort and luxury amenities.
