PALACETE FREI NICOLAU – SEAFRONT CASCAIS

Located on the seafront road between Cascais and Boca do Inferno, next door to the former residence of King Humberto II of Italy (now the five star hotel Vila Itália) and a 2 minute walk from the marina and centre of Cascais, this historic “Palacete” was commissioned by Frederico Guilhereme D’Orey and designed and constructed by the “brothers” Mello Breyner in 1923.

Today this Palacete is emblematic of the traditional majestic properties constructed on the Cascais coastline in the first half of the 20th Century and is unique in remaining as a private residence.

In 2005, the Palacete Frei Nicolau underwent a total and thorough restoration programme with the principal objective of maintaining the original architectural philosophy and concepts of the founder architects.

The restoration has succeeded in providing all the requirements of modern living with 21st Century bathrooms, kitchens, garages, heating and insulation whilst the structure and detail of the property has been painstakingly restored to it’s former glory by the use of original materials such as timbers and flooring. The result is a perfect combination of historical charm with modern amenities.
