Take a Trip from Sagres to Vilamoura

Published on

Clear waters in western Algarve highlight the stone arches and caves just waiting for visitors to spend two or three days.

Just beyond Praia da Luz is Atalaia’s spectacular viewpoint of the sea, an excellent spot to begin travel. Explore caves near Lagos before swimming in the delightful waters of the bay, protected by the Ponta da Piedade promontory.

Those who enjoy windsurfing and sailing will delight in the breezes at Alvor beach. Continuing the journey east brings a rapid series of beautiful beaches, including Praiha and Praia da Rocha. Visit each one and take pictures, perhaps selecting one you like best. Yet another amazing view of the ocean awaits you near the Santa Catarina Fortress in Rocha.

Explore more caves when you arrive at Praia do Carvoeiro beach and take pictures of Algar Seco, a memorable rock formation. Tourists are amazed traveling to nearby Senhora da Rocha, where a rock tunnel divides the beach in half. Climbing to the cliff top chapel and more scenery is a welcome hike after a refreshing swim.

The tour is nearly over when the scenic view of Albufeira beach presents itself. A rock tunnel grants access, showing the fishing boats that are part of local scenery. Continuing in the direction of Faro establishes the advantages of travel by water. View the lovely beaches of Balaia and Santa Eulalia from a boat cruise. Ride a jet ski and admire high golden cliffs above open beaches like Vilamoura and Falesia.
