Profitability Promised Because of Demand for Naturism

Published on

Because of the country’s laid-back way of life, naturism is on the rise in Portugal. Tourists and locals alike want to see this industry expanded even more, since it is the perfect location for such an industry to thrive. Naturism, also known as nudism, has grown because of the open-mindedness of the people in the country. The warm weather also helps, since clothes are not needed for warmth. Many believe that this could help the local economy grow significantly, since more naturism could bring in tourists from all over the world.

Perhaps one reason for the profit in Portugal is that many clubs have appeared over the years. These clubs are often associated with resorts and beaches and, therefore, tourism. If a naturist is looking for somewhere to take a holiday, Portugal is likely high on that list because of these clubs. While Portugal does have a long way to go to catch Spain and France in this regard, there is much more room for investment in Portugal because the industry still has room to grow.

Today, groups in Portugal are actively attempting to provide this growth by bringing publicity to this industry. The Central Naturist Club is very active in this growth, as it has brought more awareness about naturism to the general public. On a local level, this could help the Portuguese people by helping the tourism industry. On an international level, this could pique the interest of many people, which could encourage them to visit Portugal.

The CNC believes that it can make the industry more profitable by increasing this awareness. It believes that naturism is a uniquely European industry and that people will come from all over the world to experience it. If the tourism sector gets involved with the industry, it will be able to grow as a part of Portugal’s culture and, therefore make money for those involved.

Currently, there are beaches found in Algarve and Alentejo that cater to naturists. These beaches are home to numerous gatherings every year, although the tourism industry has yet to use these gatherings to their full potential. The more people know about these gatherings, the more people will show up and pump money into the local economies.

It appears as though the first step towards making this industry more popular is to get the Portuguese Tourism Board to acknowledge it. This is a niche market that has plenty of room for growth, but it needs this additional exposure to reach its full potential. If the tourism board would put even a fraction of its promotional power behind this industry, we could see it really take off in the coming years.

Another important step in the expansion of this industry is to convince municipal governments to approve more locations for naturists. If each area had only a few locations for naturists to live their lifestyles, it could further the exposure that this industry receives.

Of course, there will always be some that are against this industry, which is one reason why its expansion has been somewhat slow in Portugal. There are currently six nudist beaches in the entire country and another 19 where it is tolerated, but not encouraged. There are also two naturist campsites found in the country, which are sure to increase in popularity once they are marketed properly.

During the winter, people from all over England, Germany and Holland look for locations to the south to visit, as they want to get away from the cold. By advertising to these people, Portugal could get a piece of this over-growing pie. One thing to keep in mind is that naturist groups in these areas are growing substantially and, therefore, now is the perfect time to make Portugal into an appealing destination.

Many of these people perhaps would choose Portugal because it has a more favourable climate, but they might not if there are not enough naturist locations from which to choose. It is up to the government to allow locations where this type of lifestyle is not only permitted, but also encouraged, as it will bring tourism Euros into the economy each and every year.
