Portugal's wonderful boat trips

All of this and more is available from the many marinas in the Algarve of Portugal. Probably most famous is Vilamoura, Lagos and Albufeira and all of these offer several different types of trip. Most popular are the dolphin safaris which last for 2 and a half hours and include a trip along the coast looking at the amazing sea caves and rock pillars. After this you head out to sea and the captain of the boat works hard to spot the agile dolphins. Once spotted, you have
off to follow them. They rarely disappoint and always seem happy to see you – the sea gives us a wonderful opportunity to see animals in their natural habitat unaffected (well, as much as possible,) by us land dwelling beings.

Seeing sea-life brings us nicely onto SCUBA boats and diving and this is also a passion in Portugal. Half day trips take you out to sea where an expert guide will show you places that include sea wrecks or where there is an abundance of sea life. They offer training course for anyone wishes to dive on a regular basis.

For those young at heart, technically or mentally, then become a pirate for the day – the Pirate boat leaves Albufeira Marina everyday and sails magnificently down the coast – thankfully the coastal marines allow you to pass and find a secret beach where the order of the day is to swim to shore and eat a large feast cooked for you on the barbecue by your slave workers (the captain!).

If you want a bit of luxury then yachts and boats can be hired for the day with groups of up to 8 people usually. Grab some champagne, grab your bikini and indulge. You can be in charge of the boat yourself (with some training) or just sit back and relax, the choice is yours. If you want a challenge then fishing’s for you. Either half day or full day, expect an early start head off into the sunrise. Armed with rod and line you will hope and pray to land that big one. This is great fun and adds a new dimension to a holiday of golf and beach. You can even keep the beach to cook on your beach barbecue!

All the marinas have small huts where further information can be found. Lagos and Albufeira’s huts are easy to find and in Vilamoura you need to walk to the far end of the marina in the direction of the Lake Resort. Just a short walk from you luxury Portugal property lies a wonderful day at sea
