The Silver Coast or "Costa de Prata" has long sandy beaches lying beneath the charming rugged cliffs that this region is so well-known for, and many of the pretty villages along the coast have kept the traditional Portuguese culture and way-of-life which gives this area a real authentic feel.

There are many things to do in the Silver Coast; firstly it is an ideal place for people who love the beach and water sports with some of the most famous surfing resorts in Portugal and in the world; Ericeira and Peniche, but you can also experience the real Portuguese way of living in one of the quiet traditional fishing villages or see some of Portugal’s most impressive historical sights.
Coimbra is the main city of this region and mostly known for its university dated back to 1290 and therefore one of the oldest in Europe, but the old city also has lots of interesting buildings and is definitely worth a visit.

Nazaré is a picturesque seaside village and has become a popular tourist attraction mainly because of its fantastic beaches. It used to be famous for its traditional costumes and beautiful embroidered dresses worn by the fishermen and their wives, and occasionally you can still find someone who is wearing these traditional garments.

In the town of Fatima you will find the staggering Sanctuary of Our lady of Fatima; a Roman Catholic Marian basilica and the subject of two annual pilgrimages in May and October. Batalha is a small village especially known for the astounding Monastery of Baltaha; a gigantic gothic masterpiece built in1388 and with UNESCO World Heritage status. Between Batalha and Fatima are the Grutas da Moeda which is vast series of caves and one of the major tourist attractions of this area.
